Your regular snapshot of the wholesale energy markets

Week 20 continued the bullish trend on both the UK gas and power markets, with relatively weak demand failing to supress the effect of the upward push. Prompt and near curve contracts were provided support by unplanned outages announced by Gassco at Sleipner and Gina Krog, which were expected to hamper supply by 10mcm overall for 28 hours. Curve contracts continued to be supported by a bullish fuels complex.

Coal, carbon and oil has played a major role in influencing the direction of prices across the whole curve, which was evident on Tuesday when contracts on both the gas and power markets were dragged down by bearishness on the wider fuels complex…
