Your regular snapshot of the wholesale energy markets.

Strength was shown on the prompt of both the NBP natural gas and UK wholesale power markets last week as renewable generation dropped and forecasts showed that levels are due to taper off in the coming weeks. This increased the reliance on more expensive CCGT units, which contributed to the increase in prompt prices along with an outage which impacted multiple pipeline routes into Britain. It has been reported that a lightning strike in Scotland led to a loss of power which ultimately led to the closure of the Forties Pipeline whilst offshore outages added further fuel to the fire, as both the Kollsnes and Kvitebjorn fields were restricted by over 40mcm/day….read more
